Agricultural and Operational Machinery

We machine the cylinder bore with extreme precision using a boring and roller burnishing process to meet this challenge, achieving a very high surface finish. We also use imported zero‑leakage composite seals to eliminate internal leakage. When the lifting equipment’s long piston rod fully extended, it is prone to bending or buckling.

Marine and Port Hoisting Equipment
Welded hydraulic cylinders are widely used in deck cranes, port grab cranes, quayside telescoping mechanisms, and ship lifts. These applications expose the cylinders to salt spray, humidity, and seawater.
Advanced coatings such as HVOF ceramic or laser clad nickel alloys are applied for these marine-grade cylinders instead of standard chrome. Thus, they can obtain over 1000 hours of salt spray resistance. All joints are sealed against leakage, and the exterior paint system follows the ISO 12944 C5‑M marine standard with epoxy and polyurethane layers.

Environmental Sanitation and Waste Collection Vehicles
Welded hydraulic cylinders are used on vehicles such as refuse compactors, hook-lift trucks, and bin lifters. They charge the scraper and compactor plates, the ejector mechanisms, and the hoisting of the body. Strong corrosive liquids and complex mix of debris are challenging for these cylinders under this specific condition.
We apply a high‑grade anti‑corrosion paint system to our sanitation cylinders—using an epoxy zinc‑rich primer followed by a polyurethane topcoat to cope with this issue. The design of the wiper seal is key here. It prevents acidic liquids and fine particles from being drawn into the cylinder and damaging the internal seals. We pay due attention to it.

Welded hydraulic cylinders are used in forestry equipment such as harvesters, forwarders, grapples, and tree shears. They power the cutting, gripping and sawing operations—all of which involve heavy, continuous work.
Our forestry cylinders are made of seamless steel tubes with thick walls to fit above conditions. Reinforcing ribs or protective shields are welded on the body to guard them from falling trees or other things. Cutting operations requires very strong lateral forces. In underground jumbo drills, surface blast‑hole rigs, and large excavators, welded hydraulic cylinders face the harshest industrial environments on the planet.
We design our mining welded cylinders with deep penetration welding on the barrel and end connections to cope with these extreme situations.Non destructive testing (NDT) is performed to make sure the welds can stand high frequency shocks. Laser cladding or heavy duty double layer plating is highly recommended. We also fix a metal wiper ring at the front to get rid of sticky ore particles.
Welding Fatigue & Cracking
Strong vibrations often occur in heavy-duty working environments where welded cylinders are commonly applied. The cylinders’ strength will be weakened if the weld does not penetrate deeply enough or includes tiny internal voids. Cracks and eventually fracture will be possible to form and can lead to a whole breakdown.
Our processing method consists of three key steps.
To begin with, following strict engineering standards, we machine deep grooves at every joint between the bottom and the cylinder barrel. So that the weld metal can fully penetrate through the joint.
Second, we use fully automated robotic welding systems. All critical settings—such as current, voltage, and travel speed—are programmed and fixed. As a result, every weld is consistent in depth and shape. This eliminates the common defects—porosity and incomplete fusion—that can occur when manual welding varies due to worker fatigue or inconsistent hand technique.
Most crucially, before shipment, we run 100% non-destructive testing on these high frequency, heavy duty cylinders using either ultrasonic or magnetic particle methods. It is very much like giving the weld a ultrasound scan. The part is immediately scrapped and remade if internal void and crack larger than a few micrometers is located. We never leave one piece undone reaching customers.


Thermal Distortion & Piston Binding
During welding process, it is essential to control the heat carefully. If the temperature is allowed to become too high, the cylinder bore may develop a slight distortion. This distortion can possibly cause the piston to jam when it reaches a particular point in its travel.
To solve this problem, we follow three steps below:
First, to reduce the amount of heat inside the wall of barrel, we apply grooves at the joint between the oil part and the cylinder base and a gradual change in wall thickness.
Second, we insert a water-cooled mandrel inside during robotic welding drawing heat away instantly and limit the heat-affected zone.
Most importantly, we perform only rough machining first. Then we weld the cylinder base and all the oil ports. After the welding is complete and all thermal distortion has fully subsided and the part has stabilized, we move it to a large deep‑hole boring and rolling machine for final precision machining of the inner bore.Cylinder barrels produced in this way always have an inner bore that is perfectly round and perfectly straight. As a result, the piston moves smoothly and freely inside, with absolutely no local sticking or abnormal wear.
Welding Slag Damaging Seals
It is necessary to clean all welding spatter and slag from the cylinder interior after welding. If any debris is left behind, it will circulate with the hydraulic fluid while the cylinder is in use. This debris will rapidly abrade the piston seals and cause internal leakage, which in turn prevents the cylinder from maintaining its required pressure.
We Hydroforce have a strict process to solve this problem. All tubing components must go through a cleaning line before assembled. The cleaning line includes high pressure acid washing and ultrasonic cleaning. Later, we perform a test with white silk cloth. If the components don’t pass the test, it is sent back for re-cleaning to ensure the interior is free of any contamination.

For custom welded hydraulic cylinders, you need to provide drawings or key parameters such as cylinder bore, rod diameter, stroke, installation form, working pressure and peak pressure.
