Threaded rod cylinders serve as critical components for lifting and lowering operations on various transport equipment in the transportation industry. They are widely used in devices such as bus access ramps. Such applications demand outstanding running smoothness and control precision.
Tie-rod hydraulic cylinders achieve millimeter-precision extension and retraction, delivering reliable and stable performance.

Aerospace Equipment
Tie-rod hydraulic cylinders are frequently used in working conditions such as aircraft door actuation and swing-rod drive for rocket launch platforms.
Aircraft and rockets require extremely high weight-reduction performance for components. Compared with other hydraulic cylinders, our tie-rod cylinders provide powerful thrust within a compact construction.

Textile Machinery
Bolted hydraulic cylinders serve as core actuators for clamping, opening-closing and tensioning operations on various textile machinery. Suitable for spinning, weaving processes.
Textile machinery generally falls under light-industry equipment, and the working pressure of tie-rod hydraulic cylinders perfectly meets the operating demands of the machinery. Furthermore, the cylinders feature smooth low-speed operation with excellent cushioning performance.
Pressure-Bearing Limitations on Tie-Rod Cylinders
The pressure-bearing capacity of tie-rod hydraulic cylinders is limited by the four-tie-rod construction. As the main load-bearing components, insufficient strength of the tie rods directly set the upper limit of the cylinders’ operating pressure.
As the first step in solving the problem, we use high-strength alloy steel for tie rods to improve their tensile strength. Meanwhile, we select high-quality seamless steel tubes for the cylinder barrel, with tightly controlled machining precision to keep barrel deformation within acceptable limits under high-pressure working conditions. Next, we adopt a pre-tensioned structural design with eight high-strength alloy tie rods to form a stiffer load-bearing frame, which further improves the cylinder’s pressure-bearing performance.
Most importantly, we offer highly flexible customisation services. According to customers’ actual working conditions, we can custom-build tie-rod hydraulic cylinders for specific pressure ratings with various bore sizes, stroke lengths, mounting styles, heat-resistant seals and special materials.

Seal Failure on Tie-Rod Cylinders
Seal failure is a common malfunction of tie-rod cylinders. Insufficient torque on tie-rod bolts and tie-rod elongation under load often cause external oil leakage. Besides, damaged piston seals and system pressure shocks lead to internal oil leakage, which can trigger a series of problems: insufficient cylinder pulling force, load drifting, and pressure-holding failure. In serious cases, it may even reduce the overall efficiency of the hydraulic system and cause equipment shutdown.
To solve these problems, we fully consider core operating-condition parameters including pressure rating, temperature, media compatibility and dynamic performance for accurate seal selection.
Furthermore, we strictly follow installation specifications to ensure good coaxiality for tie-rod hydraulic cylinder’s connection to the load, and universal joints or floating supports will be fitted as needed. In addition, dust covers are fitted for piston-rod protection. For tie-rod tightening, we retighten tie-rods diagonally and evenly in 2-3 passes to achieve specified torque values.
Most critically, once the exact leakage point is identified, we carry out full inspections on seals, piston rods, cylinder barrels, guide bush, fittings, valve manifolds and system pressure, resolving the problem at its source.
Stroke-Limitation on Tie-Rod Hydraulic Cylinders
Tie-rod hydraulic cylinder have a design limitation that restricts their stroke length. The stability of tie-rods is dependent on stroke length: the longer the stroke, the lower the tie-rod stiffness, and the higher the risk of structural buckling. So, the tie-rods may deform or even become completely unusable. In addition, for long-stroke applications, long-term operation may cause tie-rod elongation and loosening. Without timely retightening, gaps will widen, leading to severe leakage.
To solve these problems, we closely control dimensional precision for long-length components. We machine the cylinder tube with high-precision deep-hole boring and burnishing, ensuring the inner wall meets long-stroke operation requirements regarding straightness, roundness and surface roughness. Furthermore, we machine all tie-rods from the same batch of raw material. They are produced in a single clamping setup, ensuring all tie-rods feature equal length and consistent thread start positions. We also machine stress-relief grooves at the thread ends to lower the risk of tie-rod fatigue fracture. Meanwhile, we increase the piston-rod diameter for higher stiffness. Besides, we fit buffer devices at stroke ends to prevent hard impacts.
