Our miniature hydraulic cylinders have bore diameters ranging from 10mm to 25mm, with a rated working pressure of 10 MPa to 21 MPa. Despite their tiny size and compact layout, they can generate strong output force and maintain highly precise control, making them ideal for installation in limited spaces.

Our micro cylinders’ piston rods are fitted to customized high-precision sealing parts. Their matching surfaces are processed through high-precision grinding and mirror polishing, reducing surface roughness from Ra 0.4 down to Ra 0.1 to prevent oil leakage and guarantee smooth, stable long-term operation.

Made of standard 40Cr steel or stainless steel, they undergo high-frequency quenching and hard chrome plating for excellent strength and durability. Equipped with M5 or G1/8 threaded ports to ensure stably operation under varying working pressures. Their full-thread outer diameter mounting design fits ideally into compact equipment spaces.

Medical and Surgical Robotics

Miniature hydraulic cylinders are widely used in surgical robots and high-end medical devices. They fit perfectly within the compact internal enclosures of precision instruments.

When the equipment is operating, the matched micro hydraulic pump units deliver hydraulic oil to control the robotic arm movements and small adjustments of surgical tables. Compact Hydraulic Tools & Rescue Equipment

Miniature hydraulic cylinders are used in compact hydraulic tools and rescue equipment. They turn ultra-high oil pressure into tons of force, providing strong breaking and lifting power inside small tool shells.

Equipped with high-strength bodies, sealing systems, and back-up rings, these cylinders can safely withstand ultra-high pressure and maintain steady. Lightweight cylinder bodies enable instant huge force output during urgent rescue missions, with excellent safety and stability.

Stick-Slip Effect at Low Speeds

Due to the small internal chamber volume of the miniature cylinders, minor oil supply fluctuations or over-tight seals may cause piston sticking. Pressure builds up steadily until the piston surges forward abruptly, resulting in jerky operation.

To solve this, Hydroforce adopts PTFE compounded with special lubricants in our designs to eliminate the stick-slip effect. The cylinder bore and piston rod are machined to a Ra 0.05 mirror finish. With high-precision CNC grinding, all seal groove dimensions are held to micron tolerances, ensuring zero leakage under high pressure. This design also reduces the cylinder’s starting pressure, enabling the piston rod to run smoothly and steadily even at ultra-low speeds.

Side Load Tolerance of Micro Rods

Miniature cylinder piston rods are usually just a few millimeters thick. Under extended stroke conditions or eccentric side loads generated during handling and overturning, the piston rods will bend laterally.They may even scratch the cylinder bore surfaces and cause scrap.

At Hydroforce, we manufacture piston rods are made of 40Cr or high-strength stainless steel. Each rods undergoes through quenching and tempering, high-frequency induction hardening, and final double-layer hard chrome plating. This makes the piston rods sufficiently rigid to resist bending caused by side loads. We lengthen the guide sleeve and embed highly wear-resistant phenolic resin guide strips within it. These strips evenly disperse side loads, allowing the piston rods to operate stably under heavy eccentric loading while preventing seizure and excessive local wear.

Reliability of Micro Threaded Ports

The oil port threads on miniature cylinders are usually M3 or M5, when suffer sudden direction changes or high-pressure impacts occur, violent pressure pulses will form at the oil port. Over-tightened or the equipment suffers long-term high-frequency vibration may cause oil leaks and machine shutdowns.

To address this problem, we require the cylinder heads and integral cylinder bodies to be manufactured from 40Cr tempered steel or high-strength aviation aluminum for higher shear strength. All threads are fully milled on CNC centers with small solid carbide thread cutters, enabling even force distribution during fitting installation.Where space permits, we recommend that customers use our custom fine-pitch threads with metal step hard seals or choose subplate mounting with O-ring face seals and screws, eliminating the stress concentration risks.
