Agricultural Hydraulic Cylinder

Agricultural hydraulic cylinders can power tractors, combine harvesters, and seeders. They are usually used to lift farm tools, dump buckets, and unfold or fold equipment. The working environment has a lot of straw and mud, so the cylinders need good sealing and wear resistance.

The cylinder barrel is usually made of 45# seamless steel pipe, with tensile strength ≥600 MPa after quenching and tempering. It can resist cracking under impact during field work. We hard-chrome plate the piston rod. The coating thickness reaches 20–30 μm. This can protect the rod from scratches by straw and sand in fields and reduce wear on seals. We can also choose the material based on your equipment.

We use a roller burnishing process. The inner bore roughness of the cylinder tube can be controlled at Ra 0.2–0.4 μm, which helps reduce friction loss. We can custom-build cylinders based on your drawings.

Your Reliable Supplier of Agricultural Hydraulic Cylinders

We have many years of experience in manufacturing agricultural hydraulic cylinders and have handled projects for different kinds of farm equipment, such as tractors and combine harvesters. We once replaced cylinders for a combine harvester manufacturer. Their original cylinders had oil leaks at the seals during operation. We analyzed the working conditions and found the cause: straw had scratched the piston rod, which damaged the seals. So we upgraded the single dust seal to a dual-seal design. The outer scraper ring removes straw debris, and the inner dust seal blocks fine dust. This prevents debris from scratching the piston rod and reduces seal leakage.

We can provide customized hydraulic cylinders based on your drawings and working conditions. If you have any questions about lead time, payment and trade terms, please feel free to contact us.

Agricultural Hydraulic Cylinder Features

Strong Environmental Adaptability

Agricultural cylinders often work around straw bits, mud, and sand, so the cylinder needs to handle tough conditions well. Cylinders commonly use thick dust seals and multiple combined oil seals. They keep straw bits from getting inside the barrel prevent scratches components. This lets the cylinder operate steadily in farm fields.

Various Mounting Options

Different farm machines have different structures and load points, so agricultural cylinders come with different mounting types, such as clevis, trunnion, cross tube, and flange. We can customize the mounting style for your specific machine. A proper mounting method helps the cylinder bear load, run smoothly, and reduce side load.

Simple Structure

Agricultural hydraulic cylinders have a simple structure. They mostly use welded cylinder bodies, and a few use tie-rod construction. They have fewer parts and no complicated design. This means they can be replaced and repaired right on the farm, cutting down machine downtime.

Applications of Agricultural Hydraulic Cylinders

Tractor Three-Point Hitch Lifting

Agricultural hydraulic cylinders are used in tractor three-point hitch lifting systems. Hydraulic oil pushes the piston rod in and out. This turns the lift arm that is connected to the linkage around its pivot, raising and lowering the implement. The cylinder can deliver strong thrust. It lifts farm tools easily and works smoothly even under heavy loads.

Harvester Header Height Adjustment

Agricultural hydraulic cylinders are used to adjust the header height of harvesters. The cylinder is mounted between the header and the feeder house. When the piston rod extends, it lifts the header; when it retracts, the header lowers. The hydraulic system can adjust the header height automatically, so the machine can adapt to changing ground conditions.

Harvester Unloading Chute Swing

Agricultural hydraulic cylinders are used for harvester unloading chute swing. One end of the cylinder connects to the unloading chute. When the piston rod extends, it pushes the linkage to swing the chute around its pivot to the set angle, so grain can be unloaded easily. The cylinder can hold pressure and stay in position, keeping the chute steady during unloading.

Planter Down Force Control

Agricultural hydraulic cylinders are used in down pressure control for planters. The piston rod extends to push the opener into the soil. When it hits hard soil or rocks, the piston rod retracts automatically to protect the opener from damage. The cylinder has a compact design and can be mounted directly on the planter. It doesn’t add much weight to the machine or affect how it works.

Sprayer Boom Folding and Unfolding

Agricultural hydraulic cylinders are used in sprayer boom folding and unfolding. The cylinder is mounted on the boom’s folding joint. When the piston rod extends, it unfolds the boom. When it retracts, it folds the boom. The piston rod has a hard chrome coating to protect it from corrosion by pesticides and fertilizers.

Baler Compression

Agricultural hydraulic cylinders are used for baler compression. High-pressure oil enters the cylinder chamber to push the piston rod out. This drives the compression piston forward to press the material, making it easier to transport and store later. The hydraulic system can be adjusted; it can set the compression density based on the type of material, so the compressed material comes out tight and even.

Agricultural Trailer Tipping Lift

Agricultural hydraulic cylinders for cargo body lifting of dump trailers. One end of the cylinder connects to the bottom of the trailer bed. Hydraulic oil enters the cylinder body to push each stage of the piston rod out one by one. This lifts the front of the bed, so the cargo slides out by gravity. The cylinder has a multi-stage telescopic design, so it can achieve a long stroke in a tight space, making it suitable for trailers.

Orchard Row Equipment Boom Adjustment

Agricultural hydraulic cylinders are used in orchard row equipment boom adjustment. By controlling the hydraulic valves, the piston rod extends or retracts. It pushes the boom to rotate around the hinge point for multi-angle adjustment. The cylinder has a cushioning structure. When branches hit the machine, the cylinder can release pressure to absorb impact and protect equipment from damage.

Mismatched Mounting Interface of Replacement Cylinder

When replacing hydraulic cylinders, the new replacement cylinder often fails to fit. That’s because key mounting details like pin hole diameter and oil port position weren’t checked when choosing the model. This means you have to rework the mounting brackets, which wastes farming time. Even if you force it on, the piston rod can bend and affect machine operation.

Many suppliers only check bore size and stroke, but we will check the full set of mounting dimensions. Before making the cylinder, we ask customers to provide the original cylinder drawing or photos. We verify key mounting data like pin hole diameter and mounting center distance. Then we build the cylinder according to those data, so the replacement cylinder fits the original machine perfectly.

Inter-stage Synchronization Issue of Telescopic Cylinder

Multi-stage telescopic cylinders are a type of agricultural hydraulic cylinder. They are short when retracted and offer a long stroke when extended, but the cylinders may extend out of sync at each stage. This happens because the seals on each stage have different friction. If one stage’s seal wears out, oil can leak internally. That stage extends more slowly and can’t follow the others, causing asynchronous movement.

We use precision honing to control the bore size of each cylinder tube, so the bore tolerance of each stage is kept within 0.02 mm. This prevents the bores from varying in size and keeps the squeeze on each seal consistent. We also use seals from the same batch to ensure the material and hardness are the same. This keeps the friction the same for all seals and helps avoid multi-stage cylinders lifting out of sync.
